The promising The Little Mermaid-inspired original anime Goodbye, Lara, which made its first surface appearance last May, has received a brief but breathtaking teaser trailer, a second teaser visual, and a visual for the titular mermaid princess Lara. A 2026 premiere date was also revealed.

Additionally, it was announced that Hana Hishikawa is the voice Lara. According to the premise, Lara once fell in love with a human prince and used a potion from the witch Grace to assume human form. Alas, Lara was ultimately reduced to bubbles by the potion as a result of being unable to find true love. 200 years later, Lara reappears in Lake Biwa…

(On the topic of Lake Biwa, the reveals were made on July 1 JST, which is Lake Biwa Day — the date was designated as such one year after a local ordinance concerning the environmental protection of the lake was enacted. Additionally, Shiga Prefecture, where the lake is located, is the hometown of the show’s director Takushi Koide [assistant director, revue costume designer, weapon designer, and more on Revue Starlight and its movie sequel.])

Goodbye, Lara is animation production studio Kinema Citrus‘ 15th anniversary project. Besides Koide, the show has Shiori Tani (Revue Starlight prop designer, Revue Starlight the Movie co-main animator and animation director et al.) on character designs, Anna Kawahara (Ashita, Watashi wa Dareka no Kanojo live-actiond rama co-writer) as series composer, and yuma yamaguchi (Undead Murder Farce) as music composer.

Update: Made some light tweaks for the paragraph on Lake Biwa and Koide’s hometown.
