A two-minute “special video” for the mermaid x human anime romance film ChaO has been released. The new look at the film features a dance performed by main heroine Chao, and also sports the insert song “Anata no Tame ni.”
ChaO will premiere in Japan on August 15 JST, and it will also be screened in North America, courtesy of GKIDS. The movie is set in a world of humans and mermaids, where male protagonist Stephan works at a shipbuilding company as an office worker. A proposal from Chao, a mermaid princess, brings a wave of change to his life.
ChaO was the recipient of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025’s Jury Award in the Feature Film category.
