Netflix has announced that it has renewed its 2025 BET TV series for a second season. The series is a loose English live-action adaptation of Homura Kawamoto and Toru Naomura’s Kakegurui manga series.

Lead star Miku Martineau, who plays Yumeko Kawamoto (the live-action English version of Jabami), confirmed the announcement of a second season on a video from Netflix Geeked’s Twitter/X account. It was not revealed when the second season would premiere, as of the time of writing.

The first season ran for 10 episodes and was released on Netflix on May 15, 2025.

The live-action series is helmed by showrunner Simon Barry (Warrior Nun) and Boat Rocker Media, with the former also serving as executive producer. It was filmed and produced in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Other executive producers for the series include Jeff F. King, David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Jon Rutherford, and Nick Nantell.

Besides Martineau, some of the cast for the live-action series includes:

  • • Ayo Solanke as Ryan Adebayo
  • • Eve Edwards as Mary Davis
  • • Clara Alexandrova as Kira Timurov
  • • Hunter Cardinal as Michael
  • • Anwen O’Driscoll as Riri Timurov and Wendy
  • • Aviva Mongillo as Dori Ahlstrom
  • • Ryan Sutherland as Suki Hennessey

The original Kakegurui manga series, written by Kawamoto and illustrated by Naomura, began serialization in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker magazine on March 22, 2014. Nineteen tankobon volumes have been released as of March 2025. A spinoff prequel manga titled Kakegurui Twin, illustrated by Kei Saiki, was released in 2015 and concluded in 2023. Yen Press releases the main manga in English as Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler –, as well as the prequel spinoff.

The manga inspired two TV anime seasons that aired in 2017 and 2019 respectively. It also inspired a 2018 live-action Japanese TV drama that aired for two seasons, two Japanese live-action films, light novels, and a defunct mobile game that launched in 2017.

Netflix describes the main premise of the live-action series as:
