Vinland Saga creator Makoto Yukimura has recently tweeted that July 25’s Chapter 220 will be the final chapter of the manga.
The release of the final chapter will close the curtain on a saga that began back in 2005 in Weekly Shonen Magazine (the manga is currently running in Monthly Afternoon).
The Kodansha-published manga took readers back to the time of the Vikings and inspired two TV anime seasons, the first produced by WIT STUDIO and the other by MAPPA (both were directed by Shuhei Yabuta and shared other staff like series composer Hiroshi Seko, character designer Abiru Takahiko, and background art director Yusuke Takeda). Kodansha USA describes the manga’s premise as:
As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band’s leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Throfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery … the land Leif called Vinland.
The manga has 28 volumes as of June 2024.
