The upcoming Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku has a new video preview in the form of a “music video” featuring the B’z theme song “The IIIRD Eye.” Expect plenty of action and explosions from the nearly two-minute video.
Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku is set to premiere on June 27 JST. The new film is the latest in the Lupin the IIIrd line of entries that are directed by Takeshi Koike (Redline) and is advertised as being the first 2D Lupin III anime film in 30 years. The premise sees Lupin III and his allies heading to a mysterious island, intending to uncover the identity of the person who is sending assassins after them, and also to dig up a hidden treasure.
A prequel anime titled Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin, which sees Inspector Zenigata coming up against a fake Lupin, premiered via streaming in advance of the new film on June 20 JST.
The Lupin III franchise, which features the exploits of the master thief Lupin III, began in 1967 with a manga created by the late Monkey Punch. The first anime series adaptation began airing in 1971.
The franchise includes multiple other manga series and anime entries, with the latter including films, OVAs, crossovers, and a 3DCG movie. One of the earliest Lupin III anime films was the Hayao Miyazaki-directed The Castle of Cagliostro.
