Japanese drink companies Acrylic Complex and U Products are releasing a new unique medicinal cola syrup inspired by Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries series.

The syrup is called “Maomao Cola” and contains a mix of different Chinese herbs and spices, which include hawthorn and jasmine. It can be consumed in three ways: prepared as a traditional cold beverage, mixed with milk, or served as a hot tea.

The syrup bottle itself is modeled and designed to resemble a traditional medicine bottle, which includes a stylized label and bottle sticker with motifs and imagery based on the series. It is the latest product in Acrylic Complex’s “Charasyrup” line, which consists of drink syrups inspired by anime and video game titles.

The “Maomao Cola” syrup is priced at 2,980 yen (US$20.56) before taxes and shipping. Pre-orders can be made on the official online store until June 23, 2025 at 12:00 PM JST, with international shipping available via the WorldShopping proxy service. The product is expected to be shipped out sometime later this coming July.

Crunchyroll is currently streaming both seasons of The Apothecary Diaries worldwide, outside of Japan, and describes the main synopsis of the second season as:

When a favored concubine becomes pregnant, Maomao is put to the test as her food taster. She must keep her wits sharp, not only to protect the concubine but also against rising dangers in the palace. A new concubine with powerful ties, an unsolved attempt at Jinshi’s life, and a foreign envoy with impossible demands hint at a grand conspiracy poised to engulf the empire.
