The official website and Twitter/X account for the upcoming Let’s Play webcomic anime adaptation has revealed an English-subtitled trailer, main cast, and staff for the series. The show is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2025.

The anime will star Kana Hanazawa as the main heroine Sam Young.

Daiki Tomiyasu (Pokémon Sun & Moon) is directing the anime series, with Ebimo (High Card, Kawagoe Boys Sing) as character designer and Aya Matsui (Marmalade Boy) as series screenwriter. OLM is in charge of the animation production.

The anime adaptation is based on the romantic comedy webcomic series by Leeanne M. Krecic (also known as Mongie), which was published digitally on WEBTOON between 2016 to 2022. The webcomic ended with its “third season” in September 2022, but is slated to return in Fall 2025 on an unspecified platform.

The anime was first announced to be in production at OLM during New York Comic Con in October 2023. A live-action TV adaptation was also announced to be in development in May 2021.

Crunchyroll will be screening the world premiere of Let’s Play at Anime Expo on July 3, 2025 with Krecic, Tomiyasu, and producers Heather Horn, Hana Sugawara, and Minaka Sakamoto in attendance.

Crunchyroll will stream Let’s Play worldwide, excluding Asia and parts of India and Southeast Asia. It describes the main synopsis as:

Samara “Sam” Young is a developer in Los Angeles who’s about to achieve her dreams with her first video game, Ruminate. That is, until a popular streamer gives the game a scathing review. Even worse, Sam finds out the troublesome critic is now her new neighbor! Get lost in a comedic, romantic, and all-too-real story about gaming, memes, and social anxiety. Come for the plot, stay for the doggo.
