Toritsukare Otoko‘s protagonist is Giuseppe, who pays undivided attention to whatever fascinates him at the moment, be it detective work or singing. This trait earns him the moniker of “Toritsukare Otoko” by the townsfolk. He has also become capable of rat speech, following conversations with the homeless rat Cielo. One day, he falls in love with the balloon seller Pechka, and tries to resolve her worries with the help of Cielo and the many skills he has picked up.

The novel was first released in 2001 by Billiken. A bunkoban release from Shinchosha came in 2006.
