A fourth new main trailer has been revealed for the ongoing From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman TV anime series, as well as the addition of two new cast members. The anime began airing in Japan on April 6, 2025 for 12 total episodes. 

The two new cast members play members of the Church of Sphene in the series, and include Ai ‌Kayano as Rose ‌Marblehart and Hidenobu ‌Kiuchi as Gatoga ‌Lazorne. 

They join a main voice cast that includes: 

  • • Hiroaki Hirata as Beryl Gardinant
  • • Nao Toyama as Allusia
  • • Hitomi Ueda as Selna Lysandra
  • • Yuki Hirose as Curuni Crueciel
  • • Hinaki Yano as Ficelle Harbeller 
  • • Chiwa Saito as Lucy Diamond
  • • Kaito Ishikawa as Henblitz
  • • Arisa Nakada as Mewi Freya

Akio Kazumi (Fist of the Blue Sky Re: Genesis) is directing the anime series, with Kunihiko Okada (The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy) as series screenwriter, and Satsuki Hayasaka (The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy co-character designer) as character designer and chief animation director. Passione and Hayabusa Film are in charge of the animation production, with YAMATOWORKS assisting with the 3D production.

The anime is based on the fantasy light novel series, written by Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. It was first published by Square Enix’s SQUEX Novel label on April 7, 2021. Nine volumes have been released as of March 2025. The series originally began as a Shosetsuka ni Naro web novel on November 17, 2020.  J-Novel Club licensed the light novels for release in English digitally. 

A manga adaptation by Kazuki Sato was launched in Akita Shoten’s web magazine Dokodemo Young Champion on August 24, 2021. Seven tankobon volumes have been released in Japan as of March 2025. Yen Press releases the manga in English for North America. WEBTOON released its own version of the manga this past month. 

Two manga spinoff series have also been released in November 2024 and February 2025, respectively.

Amazon Prime Video is streaming From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman exclusively worldwide. It describes the main synopsis as: 

Beryl Gardenant, a middle-aged swordsman running a dojo in the backwaters, lives a quiet life, until Allucia, former student and Commander of the Royal Order of Knights, appears! Beryl’s life is about to change dramatically! City life. Old students. New friends and formidable foes. It’s all too much. But after years of training, he has mad skills, and he’s been dubbed “the backwater swordmaster.”
