The All You Need Is Kill light novel, the basis for 2014’s Tom Cruise-starring Edge of Tomorrow Hollywood movie, is getting an anime film adaptation produced by STUDIO4℃. It’s “coming soon,” and you can get a taste of it through its first teaser trailer and teaser visual now.
Kenichiro Akimoto (Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko unit director, Children of the Sea CGI director) is helming the All You Need Is Kill anime. According to the press release, this adaptation “recreates the story through a fresh perspective, focusing on Ritaʼs inner journey as a warrior, delving into her loneliness, struggles, and personal growth.”
In Hiroshi Sakurazaka‘s light novel, the protagonist is Keiji Kiriya, a regular soldier who is sent among many others to battle the invading Mimic aliens, wearing armor that’s called a Jacket. He mysteriously finds himself in a time loop, and after dozens of deaths, he eventually gets contacted by Rita, a formidable soldier who has the moniker of the Full Metal Bitch.
The light novel is illustrated by Yoshitoshi Abe and was published in 2004 under Shueisha’s Super Dash Bunko label. It has a manga adaptation drawn by Takeshi Obata with storyboards by Ryosuke Takeuchi.
