Gosho Aoyama’s Yaiba manga series was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday from September 7, 1988 to December 1, 1993 and released 24 total tankobon volumes. The manga won the 38th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Children’s category. VIZ will release the manga’s first manga volume in print on July 8, 2025.

The manga, which has been licensed in English by VIZ Media, previously inspired a TV anime series from Pastel that ran from 1993 to 1994. The new anime will have Aoyama’s full supervision.
Yaiba: Samurai Legend follows a young, aspiring samurai named Yaiba Kurogane, who trains to be the best swordsman after being inspired by Miyamoto Musashi.
VIZ also announced the anime adaptation of BLACK TORCH at Emerald City Comic Con, along with the reveal of a new manga trailer for the recently licensed Kingdom manga series.
