Mumei no Jinsei, a new solo-made anime movie from Ryuya Suzuki, has unveiled a trailer, visual, and May 16 JST release date.
The anime, which looks to be an artsy and surreal trip based on the trailer, will be screened at Shinjuku Musashino-kan.
Aside from directing Mumei no Jinsei, Suzuki also has draft, animation director, background art director, compositing director, color designer, character designer, music, and editor credits.
Credited as producer is Kenji Iwaisawa, the scriptwriter, storyboard artist, character designer, animation director, and background art director of On-Gaku: Our Sound.
Rapper ACE COOL is voicing the lead character.
Mumei no Jinsei had a crowdfunding campaign on CAMPFIRE, raising 1,702,000 yen (~US$11,320) out of its 1,500,000 yen goal between December 30, 2022 to March 19, 2023.
According to their profile, it took Suzuki a year and a half to make Mumei no Jinsei. They were an aspiring live-action director who studied film at Tōhoku University of Art & Design and started making short animation with self-learned knowledge during the coronavirus pandemic. Suzuki’s previous short animations have won awards, including the 9th New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival’s Japan Grand Prix for Lawless Love.
