Voice actress Kana Hanazawa is joining the ongoing second season of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun as Shijima-san of the Art Room, who is the fourth member of the Seven Mysteries of Kamome Academy. The character made a brief appearance at the end of the anime’s fifth episode and is featured in the sixth episode.
Hanazawa joins a main voice cast that includes:
- • Megumi Ogata as Hanako-kun
- • Akari Kito as Nene Yashiro
- • Shoya Chiba as Ko Minamoto
- • Minako Sato as Aoi Akane
- • Shunichi Toki as Akane Aoi
Season two of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun premiered in Japan on January 11, 2025 and is expected to run for 12 total episodes.
Yohei Fukui (Bakugan: Evolutions assistant director, Toilet Bound Hanako-kun Episode 10 director) is directing the second season, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Toilet Bound Hanako-kun) as series screenwriter and Mayuka Ito (Toilet Bound Hanako-kun) as character designer. Lerche is the animation production company for the series.
The second season and the spinoff short anime series After-school Hanako-kun are part of a new Hanako-kun project that was first announced in December 2022. The first season of Toilet Bound Hanako-kun aired in 2020 and ran for 12 episodes. The first season of After-school Hanako-kun consisted of four 10-minute episodes that aired in 2023. The short series’ second season began airing another four episodes on October 7, 2024.
The anime is based on the manga by creative duo AidaIro (consisting of writer Iro and illustrator Aida) that was first serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine on June 18, 2014. Twenty-three tankobon volumes have been released as of December 2024.
The After-school Hanako-kun spinoff manga debuted in 2018 and has released two tankobon volumes as of February 2024. Yen Press releases both manga series in English for North America.
