WW2 Pottery Manga Waiting for the Sunlight Begins Serialization on Manga Plus featured image

Haruka Nanase‘s Waiting for the Sunlight (Youko o Matsu), a World War 2-set manga about an aspiring ceramic artist, began serialization on Shueisha’s Manga Plus and Shonen Jump+ near the start of 2025 as a simulrelease.

The story is set in Shiga Prefecture’s Shigaraki during the summer of 1940. Protagonist Yoko Matsubara is “a young girl with a talent for pottery” who “dreams of becoming a ceramic artist, unaware of the horrors yet to come…”

Manga Plus adds that the manga commemorates the 80th anniversary of World War 2 and “presents an untold account of life during the war.”

The first chapter of Waiting for the Sunlight was released on January 2 JST.
