The new opening animation for the Blue Box anime adaptation has finally been officially released on YouTube.
Kuniyasu Nishina, who was promoted to co-assistant director on OSHI NO KO Season 2 after being the Episode 6 storyboard artist and director for the first season, storyboarded and unit directed the opening. OSHI NO KO director Daisuke Hiramaki was also involved, as the editor.
Blue Box‘s second opening animation opens with immediately arresting imagery as heroines Chinatsu Kano and Hina Chono are ethereally portrayed with the wings of an angel and a fairy/butterfly, respectively. Even when it returns to reality, it maintains the strong character drawings and mood-evoking colors as it depicts Hina’s thoughts of protagonist Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu’s growing bond with him.
The new Blue Box opening song is “Saraba” by Macaroni Empitsu.
Blue Box first began airing on October 3, 2024. The anime is based on the teen romance manga by Koji Miura, which Viz Media describes as:
Taiki admires Chinatsu from afar, but he doubts that she sees him in the same way. Yet somehow, he musters up the courage to tell her to never give up on her dreams! After such a bold declaration, will Taiki’s fleeting high school romance finally begin?
The manga began serialization in 2021 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and has 18 tankoubon volumes as of December 2024. It was originally a 2020 one-shot.
