Now that it’s Christmas in Japan, more promotional material and information about the Sanda anime have been released. There’s a teaser trailer, a second teaser visual, a fall 2025 release window, and the reveal of the main staff and cast.
Tomohisa Shimoyama (Yurei Deco) is directing the Science SARU production with Kimiko Ueno (Ranma ½ remake series composer and co-scriptwriter) as series composer and scriptwriter, Masamichi Ishiyama (Yurei Deco Episode 9, 10, and 12 sub-character designer) as character designer and chief animation director, and FPM’s Tomoyuki Tanaka as music composer. The announced voice actors are Ayumu Murase as Sanda and Hiroki Tochi as Santa Claus.
Sanda is based on the manga by Beastars’ Paru Itagaki. The near-future-set story sees the boy Sanda suddenly threatened by a classmate whose friend has gone missing, and discovering that he can transform into a well-built Santa Claus-like form. The manga began serialization in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion in 2021 and has 16 tankoubon volumes as of October 2024.
