A third “intermission” video has been released for the Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, which is expected to play in 25 theaters across Japan from December 27, 2024 to February 6, 2025. The film will premiere in Japan on January 17, 2025.

Hiroyuki Hata (Lapis Re:LiGHTs) is directing the anime film, with Yoko Yonaiyama (A Sign of Affection series scriptwriter and screenwriter) as screenwriter, Yuki Akiyama (The Aquatope on White Sand) as character designer and chief animation director, Masatoshi Tsuji (Vivid BAD SQUAD Digest Animation – Journey to Bloom “Resolve”) as sub-character designer and chief animation director. P.A.WORKS is handling the animation production.

An international release of Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing was announced this past August and is listed as “coming soon.”

Saki Fujita is reprising her role as Hatsune Miku from other works in the game franchise, while Ruriko Noguchi will voice the main character Ichika Hoshino. The voice cast also includes several members from the franchise reprising their roles.

Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is inspired by the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! (Project Sekai Colorful Stage Feat. Hatsune Miku) rhythm game, which was originally launched for iOS and Android on September 30, 2020 before getting a Western release in December 2021. It is a spin-off of Sega‘s Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series and features several other virtual singers, such as Kagamine Rin and Len.

The official English synopsis for the anime film is described as:

“Tell me more… about you. Maybe then… I will know how to sing.”

Ichika Hoshino hears a song by Miku that she has never heard before at a music store. She finds “Hatsune Miku,” who she has never seen before in the TV screen, and says aloud “Miku!?”. Although their eyes meet, Miku is startled by Ichika’s voice and disappears.

Later, after Ichika finishes her street performance, Miku appears again in Ichika’s smartphone. Ichika asks the sad looking Miku what is troubling her and finds out that there are people who Miku wants to deliver her song to, but no matter how much she sings, her voice won’t reach them.

After seeing Ichika reach people’s hearts with her song, Miku thinks that she can do the same by learning more about Ichika. Ichika smiles and agrees to help. Join Miku and her friends as a new story begins!
