The long-running One Piece TV anime series will resume its television broadcasting with new episodes in Japan on April 6, 2025. The anime will air on Sundays at 11:15 PM JST on Fuji TV and several other affiliate channels.

A new key visual and 1-minute announcement video were also released, confirming the anime’s evening broadcast date. An English-subtitled version of the video is also available.

Additionally, during Shueisha’s Jump Festa ‘25 event, it was announced that voice actor Subaru Kimura will be taking over the voice role of Franky in One Piece. Original voice actor Kazuki Yao announced earlier this month that he was stepping down from his long-time role as Franky after some discussion with the production staff.

Kimura previously voiced young Buggy in episodes of the anime series. During the Jump Festa ‘25 presentation, Yao said that he helped choose Kimura as his successor. Kimura then joined Yao on stage to perform his signature catchphrase and pose. He was also given Franky’s red underwear in a symbolic “passing-of-the-torch” moment.

The One Piece TV anime series is currently in the “Egghead” story arc, which began airing in Janaury 2024. During the broadcast hiatus, an edited version of the “Fish-Man Island Arc” titled One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga was broadcasted. Another anime special titled One Piece Fan Letter debuted on October 20, 2024 in celebration of the anime’s 25th anniversary. The special is currently streaming on Netflix.

The One Piece TV anime adaptation premiered in 1999 and has aired over 1,000 episodes over its more than 20 year run. Toei Animation is the animation production company. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the series worldwide.

Eiichiro Oda’s original manga series was launched in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 22, 1997 and has released 110 tankobon volumes as of November 2024. The anime series was preceded by a Production I.G-produced OVA released earlier the same year.

VIZ Media releases the manga series in English, describing the main synopsis as:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary “One Piece,” said to be the greatest treasure in the world…
