Gag Manga Biyori GO Reveals New Trailer, Theme Song Artists & Kensho Ono Roles (UPDATED) featured image

A new trailer and theme song artists have been revealed for the upcoming Masuda Kosuke Gekijou Gag Manga Biyori GO TV anime series. The anime is set to premiere in Japan in April 2025 and marks the first anime adaptation in 15 years. 

The announcement was made during Shueisha’s Jump Festa ’25 event this past weekend. A Japanese language and multiple subtitled version of the trailer were also released together. Remow licensed the fifth series for release outside of Japan. 

Voice actor Kensho Ono roles in the cast was also revealed as Chupacabra for the episode “Bremen’s Band” and as Tachibana Hokushi in the episode “Oku no Hosomichi Last Spurt.”

Ono joins a main voice cast that includes:

  • • Yuji Ueda as Pensuke
  • • Kaori Nazuka as Usami
  • • Takeshi Maeda as Kumakichi, Kawai Sora, Prince Shotoku
  • • Eiji Takemoto as Onono Imoko
  • • Ryo Naito as Matsuo Basho
  • • Narumi Sato as Usami-chan

Yuji Ueda previously sang the theme songs for the franchise, and will once again perform the series’ opening theme song. Meanwhile, heavy metal vocalist Tetsuya Kanmuri performs the ending theme song.

Akitaro Daichi (Ojarumaru) is directing the short anime series, with Harukichi Yamamoto (Ninja Nonsense) returning as music composer. Other staff include Kazuya Tanaka (Me & Roboco) as sound director, Mizuki Nakagawa as color designer, Manami Koyama (Ninja Girl & Samurai Master) as art director, and Takashi Yanagida (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) as director of photography. Studio Deen is handling the animation production. 

Gag Manga Biyori GO will be the fifth TV anime adaptation of Masuda Kosuke’s surreal comedy manga series. The manga first debuted in Shueisha’s Monthly Shonen Jump in January 2000, before transferring to Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine on November 7, 2007. The series ended in November 2014 and released 15 total tankobon volumes.

A new manga by Kousuke titled Gekijou Gag Manga Biyori GB was started on December 4, 2015 to commemorate the original manga’s 15th anniversary. It was also serialized on Jump Square and has released eight tankobon volumes as of August 2024.

The manga previously inspired an OVA, stage play, and several anime seasons, which premiered during the 2000s through to 2010. 

The gag comedy series is known for its various bizarre plot setups and non-sequitur humor.
