Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESSi’ writer is CD Projekt Red’s Bartosz Sztybor, who was in charge of the anime’s screen story. The artist is Asano, who drew the manga adaptation of the anime BNA: Brand New Animal.

“Rebecca, whose fiery personality made her a fan-favorite, grows up with her big brother Pilar as they pursue their shared dream of ‘becoming a legendary edgerunner like their father,'” reads the synopsis. “In the megalopolis of Night City, where obsessions with technology, body modification, and power run rampant, they struggle, suffer, and cause chaos wherever they go! As they go about their daily lives, the mysterious Safran appears before them — changing the trajectory of their future. In this manga, a prequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, siblings Rebecca and Pilar’s lives are full of madness as they rush through Night City to prove themselves as edgerunners!”

The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which was released on Netflix on September 13, 2022 with 10 episodes and charts the rise of street kid David (KENN) as a cyberpunk, after a certain incident leads to an encounter with the netrunner Lucy (Aoi Yuki). The anime is inspired by the 2020 open world sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red, which is in turn set in the world created by Mike Pondsmith for the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG. Hiroyuki Imaishi (Promare, Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann) directed the Trigger production.
