Medalist is based on the Kodansha-published manga by Tsurumaikada, which began serialization in Monthly Afternoon in 2020 and has 11 tankoubon volumes as of August 2024. The manga was the winner of the Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho 2022 award in the comics category and the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category.

Kodansha USA describes the source material as:

Tsukasa, whose dreams were crushed. Inori, left to fend for herself. These two share a dream…and their tenacity may be the only thing that sees them through. Their destination? The ice…on the world’s stage!
