A TV anime adaptation of Kosuke Masuda‘s Masuda Kousuke Gekijou Gag Manga Biyori manga will premiere in April 2025.
Akitaro Daichi (Ojarumaru) is directing the short series at Studio Deen. Cast members include Yuji Ueda, Takeshi Maeda, Kaori Natsuka, Eiji Takemoto, Masahito Yabe, Ryo Naito, Narumi Sato, and Kensho Ono.
The anime will have a global release and is described as:
A wide variety of characters, including Shotoku Taishi, Matsuo Basho and Usami-chan, will draw the audience into a unique world through the surreal gags created by Kosuke Masuda.
Masuda Kousuke Gekijou Gag Manga Biyori debuted in 1999 in Shueisha’s Monthly Shonen Jump. Masuda Kousuke Gekijou Gag Manga Biyori GB, a “renewal” that was meant to commemorate original’s 15th anniversary, started in 2015 and has eight tankoubon volumes as of August 2024.
The manga previously inspired an OVA and multiple anime seasons, which premiered during the 2000s and in 2010. There is also a stage play.
