A clip from the Yamanaka Sadao ni Sasageru Manga Eiga “Nezumi Kozou Jirokichi” anime short film was recently released. The film is now playing in the indie-focused Eurospace theater in Shibuya, where it will run until December 6 JST.
Yamanaka Sadao ni Sasageru Manga Eiga “Nezumi Kozou Jirokichi” is directed by Rintaro (Galaxy Express 999, X movie, Metropolis) at Studio M2 with character designs by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo and Yoshinori Kanemori (X TV series). The Sitges Film Festival’s synopsis reads:
The new project from the legendary Rintaro following a fourteen-year break from directing, this short film follows the creation of the film Nezumikozô Jirokichi: Edo no Maki (1933) by Sadao Yamanaka, a Japanese filmmaker who died in 1938 at the age of 28 and who played an essential role in the transition of Japanese cinema from silent movies to talkies.
Rintaro is also credited for “adaptation,” while Sadao Yamanaka is credited as screenwriter. The business/planning side of the production was handled by Genco and France’s Miyu Productions.
