The anime is based on the simulation mobile game of the same name, which was developed by Coly and released in Japan in 2019. The game inspired two manga adaptations from Ichijinsha that were published in 2020 and 2024. The first manga series released three total tankobon volumes. It also inspired several stage plays and radio web drama series.

QooApp describes the source material as a “mobile otome game where players have to train different wizards to defend the world” from chaos caused by the moon.
Promise of Wizard follows Akira Masaki, an ordinary young woman from Earth, who is suddenly summoned to a magical fantasy world. She is tasked with training wizards from five different nations in order to fight against a supernatural menace known as “The Great Calamity.”
