Crunchyroll has announced the license acquisition of the original anime series Girls Band Cry and will premiere it on its service on November 6, 2024. All 13 episodes will be available to stream at once.

The series will be available with subtitles in nine languages and streamed across English-speaking territories, Latin America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.

Girls Band Cry was previously announced for digital release on Fandango at Home, Microsoft Store, Amazon Prime Video, and Hoopla. A compilation film was also announced this past September.

CATCHPLAY+ streamed the anime in Indonesia with both Indonesian and English subtitles.

Kazuo Sakai (Love Live! Sunshine!!) directed the anime, with Nari Teshima (VTuber Hoshimachi Suisei‘s character designer) as character designer, Jaehoon Jung as CG director, and Jukki Hanada (The Dangers in My Heart, Love Live! Superstar!!) as series screenwriter. Toei Animation was in charge of the animation production for the series.

Meanwhile, the anime’s voice cast for the anime’s Togenashi Togeari band includes:

  • • Rina as vocalist Nina Iseri
  • • Yuri as guitarist Momoka Kawaragi
  • • Mirei as drummer Subaru Awa
  • • Natsu as keyboardist Tomo Ebizuka
  • • Shuuri as bassist Rupa

The anime’s official website announced in July that cast members Mirei and Natsu were going on hiatus due to poor health reasons. The remaining three main cast members — Rina, Yuri, and Syuri — have continued performing.

Crunchyroll describes the main synopsis of Girls Band Cry as:

Feeling out of place in the countryside, high school dropout Nina Iseri moves to Tokyo. After a rough first day and getting locked out of her apartment, she meets her favorite guitarist, Momoka Kawaragi. The two put on a street performance together and decide to start a band with three other girls. While each girl faces her own struggles, their passion for music keeps their dreams alive.
