The Harvey Awards have announced that Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama will be inducted as one of five new members into its Hall of Fame this year. The other four nominees are Arthur Adams, Sergio Aragones, the late John Busceme, and Larry Hama.
Previous manga artists to have been inducted in the Hall of Fame include Osamu Tezuka and Rumiko Takahashi in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Meanwhile, the nominees for the Best Manga Awards at the Harvey Awards were also revealed. They are listed as follows:
- • The Summer Hikaru Died — Mokumokuren
- • Witch Hat Atelier — Kamome Shirahama
- • Delicious in Dungeon — Ryoko Kui
- • Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End — Kanehito Yamada (story) and Tsukasa Abe (art)
- • Soichi: Junji Ito Story Collection — Junji Ito
- • H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth — Gou Tanabe
- • Berserk Deluxe Edition Vol 14 — Kentaro Miura
- • Second Hand Love — Yamada Murasaki
- • My Picture Diary — Fujiwara Maki
- • Okinawa — Susumu Higa


Two media adaptations based on manga were also nominated for the Best Adaptation from Comic Book/Graphic Novel category, which are SEGA’s video game Demon Slayer –Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles and Attack on Titan: The Musical, directed by Gou Ueki.
The Hall of Fame inductions and winners of this year’s Harvey Awards will take place on October 18, 2024 at New York Comic Con.
The annual Harvey Awards was first established in 1988 to honor “outstanding work in comics and sequential art.” It has been hosted at New York Comic Con since 2017.
