The anime adaptation of Gintama spin-off 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei has received a teaser visual and a dialogue-focused “super teaser PV.” It was also revealed that the show will premiere in Japan in October 2025.

Additionally, the updated staff credits reveal Natsumi Higashida (Tokyo Mew Mew New assistant director) to be the director, with Makoto Moriwaki (Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun director) as chief director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Shangri-la Frontier) and Mitei Mark II as series composers, Shinji Takeuchi (Gintama) as character designer and chief animation director, and Audio Highs as music composer.

Among the returning Gintama cast are Tomokazu Sugita as Ginpachi Sakata, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Shinpachi Shimura, and Rie Kugimiya as Kagura.

The BN Pictures-produced 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei anime is part of the Gintama manga’s 20th anniversary project. It is based on the light novel series written by Tomohito Osaki, which envisions Gintoki as a high school teacher called Ginpachi Sakata.

The spin-off parodies the Japanese drama 3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi-sensei, which aired its first season in 1979 and released the four-hour Final special in 2011. The main Gintama anime has featured shorts with the Ginpachi-sensei premise.

The original Shueisha-published Gintama manga by Hideaki Sorachi began in 2004 and released its 77th and final tankoubon volume in 2019. It was mainly serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, but some of its later chapters were published in Jump GIGA in 2019, while the concluding chapters were released via a Gintama app. Twenty-three volumes were published in English by Viz Media.

The manga’s anime adaptation began airing in Japan in 2006 and ran until 2018 for four seasons. There are also a few anime movies, including 2021’s Gintama THE FINALGintama on Theater 2D: Thorny Arc, an edited, limited-run theatrical release of the series’ “Thorny Arc” with bonus footage, debuted in Japanese theaters last November.
