Dragon Ball lead character Son Goku is returning to headline 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of a line of large character balloons. The parade will take place on November 28, 2024 in New York City and will be broadcasted in the U.S. on NBC and stream on Peacock.

Goku’s parade balloon will showcase him in a new pose, with his signature spiky black hair and orange martial arts uniform, displaying an expressive smile and salute to his fans. The balloon measures around 70.5 feet long, 33 feet wide and 41.5 feet tall.

Goku’s participation in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade marks the 40th anniversary of the franchise overall from Toei Animation, which began with the publication of creator Akira Toriyama’s 1984 Dragon Ball manga series. The character first debuted in the parade in 2018.

In last year’s parade, a character balloon of One Piece’s Monkey D. Luffy was added as part of the festivities. Pokémon characters Pikachu and Eevee were also added in the parade after first appearing in 2021.
