A new key visual has been unveiled for the Fureru anime film to commemorate its Japanese theatrical premiere on October 4, 2024.

Tatsuyuki Nagai (A Certain Scientific Railgun T) is directing the anime film, with Mari Okada (Maboroshi and Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms director and writer) as screenwriter, Masayoshi Tanaka (Suzume, Darling in the Franxx) as character designer and chief animation director, and Masaru Yokoyama (Tsurune) and TeddyLoid as music composers. CloverWorks is in charge of the animation production. 

Nagai, Okada, and Tanaka are part of the Super Peace Busters collective, with all three having collaborated on Anohana, The Anthem of the Heart, and Her Blue Sky. The films are colloquially known as the “youth trilogy.” 

Meanwhile, the film’s main voice cast stars:

  • • Ryota Bando as Ryo Sobue 
  • • Kentaro Maeda as Yuta Inohara 
  • • Haruka Shiraishi as Juri Kamozawa 
  • • Manaka Iwami as Nana Asakawa 
  • • Sarutoki Minagawa as Wakita 
  • • Kenjiro Tsuda as Kohei Shimada

Fureru follows three childhood friends named Aki, Ryo, and Yuta, who gain telepathic powers after encountering a mysterious porcupine-like creature they name Fureru. They later learn that the mysterious creature is part of the local folklore of their island hometown.
