Naruto Manga Series Celebrates 25 Years in Newest Anniversary Promo Video featured image

A new anniversary promo video has been released for Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto manga series, which celebrates 25 years since the debut of its first chapter on September 21, 1999. 

The new video showcases several key moments from Kishimoto’s long-running manga series that follows Naruto’s journey from a lowly rookie ninja to becoming the leader of the Hidden Leaf Village. 

Some of the scenes highlighted include the start of the Chunin Exams, Naruto and Sasuke’s first battle, Naruto’s battle with Pain, and many more important moments from the manga. 

A special website commemorating the manga’s 25th anniversary was also launched and is available in both English and Japanese. Additionally, a special gift campaign will run until September 25, 2024 at 11:59 (JST), in which fans can win gifts such as smartphone wallpapers. 

The Naruto manga series was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from September 21, 1999 to November 10, 2014, releasing a total of 72 tankobon volumes. 

A sequel manga titled Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which is illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 9, 2016, before moving to V Jump monthly magazine in July 2019. Twenty tankobon volumes were released as of June 2023. A second part titled Boruto: Two Blue Vortex was launched on August 21, 2023, releasing three tankobon volumes as of September 2024. 

The first TV anime series aired from October 3, 2002 to February 8, 2007. The follow-up sequel, Naruto: Shippuden, aired from February 15, 2007 to March 23, 2017. Studio Pierrot produced the animation for both anime series. Crunchyroll streamed all the episodes in English, outside of Japan, for select countries and territories.

VIZ Media licensed the anime and manga for North American release, describing the first volume as:

Twelve years ago the Village Hidden in the Leaves was attacked by a fearsome threat. A nine-tailed fox spirit claimed the life of the village leader, the Hokage, and many others. Today, the village is at peace and a troublemaking kid named Naruto is struggling to graduate from Ninja Academy. His goal may be to become the next Hokage, but his true destiny will be much more complicated. The adventure begins now!
