Gigi Murin is one of hololive’s newest members, debuting alongside Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, Raora Panthera, and Cecilia Immergreen as part of hololive English -Justice-. Known for her peculiar habits and love of freedom, Gigi infiltrated hololive with an iconic debut.

Anime Trending had the exclusive opportunity to interview Gigi about her immense aura, unique creative touch, and gremlin tendencies.

Your first cover song came with a very fun stop motion music video that really matched the fun energy and creativity of your debut stream. How did the idea of doing a stop motion MV come about, and how did the creator Izzy Delore get Involved?

Gigi: If you’ve seen the original MV by Haraguchi Sasuke, they place a phone down in real life (very literally) and on the phone screen, it plays a video in accordance with the song. I’ve always been very interested in mixed-media, so when concepting my cover, I knew that I wanted the 3D spaces to be utilized heavily!

Stop motion wasn’t the first thing on my mind, but I’ve seen Izzy Delore’s thesis film in the past and knew what a talented and especially creative craftsman they were! So I reached out to them saying how much I liked the stop-motion in their thesis film, and they pretty much took it from there!

Speaking of your debut stream, how much time did it take to prepare and rehearse the RPG segment in the middle?

Gigi: There was lots of procrastination. I think every week I was in a call with a Justice member saying “We have plannyyy off time.” (Spoiler alert: we did not have plany off time)

It took basically a week to concept, draw, and plan. Then, I did one dry run of it to make sure timers all aligned and I didn’t go over time! A tip to everyone who is interested in planning something like this:  account for your audience size! Apparently, tens of thousands of people can cast a vote in a single second. Who could have known that? Not me!

How did you first discover hololive? What inspired you to audition?

Gigi: I discovered hololive when Myth debuted! It’s a common story. I was stuck at home with nothing to do — wasting away in a voice call — when suddenly CUTE GIRLS WERE ON MY SCREEN?

From then on, I started my journey in creation. I’ve always dreamt of being someone that could inspire others to create, and I’ve made it my goal to do something FUN and EXCITING to just put a smile on other people’s faces!

And I kept chasing my dreams of hololive because they were the ones to introduce me to it all! They gave me my “dream”! I’m very grateful to Justice, and I’m happy we were all able to infiltrate hololive together >:]

You have been posting your drawings to X (formerly twitter) every day! What inspires you to keep up the schedule?

Gigi: I love doodling and drawing silly little things! And I wanted to stay connected with my followers, so I just doodled something and threw it out there! And then, I did it again. And again! Suddenly, two weeks had passed and…

I can’t just STOP doing it!

So here we are, almost two months out and I’ve done a daily goodnight doodle ever since. The day I stop is the day I admit defeat. Or if I get really busy that I pass out before I can draw anything.

Your drawings have a crunchy style and a very silly energy. How did you develop this style?

Gigi: MSPaint! It is the crunchiest drawing program on earth. If you want some CRUNCH, open up MSPaint! I’ve always loved super textured line-weights because there’s something so whimsical about it!

I developed my art style by being a hater of pen pressure. Keep it away from me…

Having fun is at the top of your lists of likes. What is an ideal day of fun/off-day for you?

Gigi: An ideal day off is me sleeping for 10 hours and not doing anything else that requires brain processing power for maybe another 30 hours straight.

An ideal FUN day is a restaurant/cafe tour! My favorite thing to do when traveling is eating!

What do you do as preparation right before streaming?

Gigi: I tend to get out of bed 30 minutes before stream. I open my streaming software, add like five Gigi standees to my stream, make a post on social media that I’m awake and going live soon — because I forgot to do that — get some water (that I barely drink), and then I go live!

Purely out of curiosity, why is NieR Replicant on your “List of Media That Changed Your Life,” but not NieR Automata?

Gigi: Don’t get me wrong, I love NieR Automata! I cried at the credits song because of how beautiful it was — music is just so powerful… But there’s something about NieR Replicant that has me connecting with it more on a personal level.

They’re two similar games, but with two very different stories! Replicant was a lot more character focused, and I connected more with the cast and their personal stories. I can’t get too into it without spoiling the entire game, but something about a flawed and selfish character is so beautiful.

What’s the first video game you ever played?

Gigi: I don’t know… Time is fleeting… I barely remember what happened yesterday…

 ….my childhood game was Maplestory.

What is your favorite hololive song? Do you have more than one?

Gigi: I LOVE IDOL SONGS!

“Shiny Smily Story,” “Connect the World,” and “Our Bright Parade…” SO INSPIRING!

“Capture The Moment” holds a special place in my heart though, for some sentimental reasons!

How well do you think you’ll fare against Fuwamoco with your +3 Animal Handling stat?

Gigi: Fuwawa-senpai and Mococo-senpai better watch before their Justice kouhai captures them >:3 Sleep with one eye open or you’ll end up back in our headquarters before you know it!
