Discotek Media unveiled 16 upcoming Blu-ray and DVD releases during its industry panel at Otakon last week. The panel was also live streamed on the company’s official YouTube channel.
Here are the details for Discotek’s new home video releases:
Lupin III Italian Game
The Lupin III Italian Game TV special is coming to Blu-ray in September 2024 with English subtitles. The special is the 25th overall special in the Lupin III franchise, and first aired in Japan on January 8, 2016.
The company mentioned that the Italian Game special serves as an addition to 2015’s Lupin the 3rd Part IV: The Italian Adventure. The special uses a few episodes of TV show content mixed with a decent portion of new material.
More news about upcoming Lupin III projects will be announced later in the future.
Space Pirate Captain Harlock
All 42 episodes of the Space Pirate Captain Harlock anime will be upscaled to 1080p (the same upscale as the release in Japan) on Blu-ray disc in September 2024, which includes English subtitles. Discotek previously released the anime on DVD in 2013.
Dallos
Discotek Media will release Mamoru Oshii‘s Dallos OVA on Blu-ray disc in September 2024. The release will include English subtitles and a recent HD transfer. The anime is widely considered to be the first direct-to-video animation project to ever be released, and is also the first OVA to be released.
Discotek recently released Dallos in the United States on DVD in 2014.
Giant Gorg
All 26 episodes of Gundam animator and manga artist Yoshikazu Yasuhiko‘s Giant Gorg mecha anime will be released on Blu-ray disc with English subtitles later this year. The new Blu-ray will feature an HD remaster from the original films.
The company describes the synopsis of Giant Gorg as:
Yuu Tagami was never close with his father. Yet after the old man’s accidental death, Yuu finds himself on a plane to New York City, following instructions written in a letter from his late father. New York is as strange as it gets for the boy from Japan, but stranger still is Dr. Wave, the man he’s supposed to meet. Dr. Wave shares an obsession with the deceased concerning the mysterious New Austral Island.
Space Musketeer Bismark
Space Musketeer Bismark will be released in HD on Blu-ray disc at an undisclosed date. The release will include all 51 episodes with new English subtitles.
World Events Productions recut, edited, and released the series under the title Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs in 1987. Discotek released the recut series on SD Blu-ray disc in 2023.
Chie the Brat 2nd TV Series
Discotek will release Chie the Brat 2nd TV Series on standard definition Blu-ray disc later this year. The follow-up to the first 1981 TV anime series Chie the Brat will be released for the first time in English. The Blu-ray will include English subtitles and a clean opening and ending.
The original Chie the Brat anime ended in 1983 and Discotek released the series on Blu-ray disc in May 2024.
The anime follows the everyday life of the unluckiest little girl in Osaka, Japan during the 1970s.
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka
All 43 episodes of GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka will be released on standard definition Blu-ray disc in September 2024, featuring upgraded English subtitles and the Tokyopop English dub.
Extra features on the Blu-ray include clean openings, endings, promos, an interview with original creator Tohru Fujisawa, dub outtakes, and many more.
Digimon Adventure 02 and Digimon the Movies
Discotek is releasing the Digimon Adventure 02 anime on AstroRes Blu-ray disc with the Japanese audio and new English subtitles. The Blu-ray will include clean openings and endings, end cards, promos, production art galleries, and many other extras.
The company previously announced the Blu-ray release in July 2023 and will release the English dub version of the anime separately first, followed by the Japanese version. The English-dub was first released on May 28, 2024.
Discotek also released the English version of Digimon Adventure on Blu-ray disc in December 2022 under the title Digimon: Digital Monsters. Discotek released the Japanese version in July 2023.
The company also confirmed that the Digimon the Movies release is still in its approval process. More updates on the project will be announced soon.
The releases will have a new English dub for all three Digimon films, as well as the original Japanese language versions, and more extras.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
The Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS TV anime series will receive its first-ever home video release in North America later this year. The Blu-ray disc release includes English subtitles and extra features that are still being determined.
Kiss×sis
The 12-episode Kiss×sis TV anime series will be released uncensored in HD on Blu-ray disc in September 2024. The release will include English subtitles, a clean opening, a clean version of the ninth episode, an extended version of the ending dance, the clean ending for the 12th episode, promo videos, and commercials.
Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva
Discotek will release the Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva anime film in HD on Blu-ray disc. The release will include English subtitles, as well as an English dub featuring the cast of the Professor Layton video games. Trailers will be included as extras.
Kite: Integral Version
Kite: Integral Version is an upgraded HD remaster of the cult classic 1998 OVA and will debut on Blu-ray in September 2024. The new release is based on earlier Media Blasters restorations, which include missing shots restored with AstroRes and color corrected, fixed framing mistakes, and re-rendered original titles.
The Blu-ray disc will include three versions of the anime: an adult-only “uncut” version, the “U.S. general release” version, and an “International” cut version, the latter of which has not been released before.
Other features include English and Japanese audio in 5.1 and 2.0 for all three versions and all existing bonus features. It also includes a previously unseen next episode preview and an all-new documentary featurette exploring the OVA’s release history.
Humanoid Monster Bem
Discotek will release a remastered version of the 1968 TV anime series Humanoid Monster Bem on Blu-ray disc later this year. The release will include all 26 episodes with English subtitles and TV ads as extras. This will be the first release of the anime in North America.
Groizer X
Go Nagai‘s classic mecha anime Groizer X will be released on standard definition Blu-ray disc with English subtitles. The new Blu-ray will include all 36 episodes of the 1976 TV anime series.
Reborn Special Fan Disc
The Reborn Special Fan Disc Blu-ray will be released in September 2024. It includes three episodes from the 2006 TV anime series (episodes 1, 20, and 77) and a never-before-released OVA. Japanese subs and a new English dub are also included in the Blu-ray release, although Discotek notes that it is not dubbing the rest of the series.
