My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next Reveals Original Villain Characters & Screenings in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema featured image

Six new original villain characters and premium screenings have been revealed for the upcoming My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next anime film. The fourth film in the My Hero Academia franchise will premiere in Japanese theaters on August 2, 2024. 

A new promotional video for the film was also released, confirming the film’s screenings in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema on its premiere date.

The original villain characters for You’re Next are described as members of a mysterious criminal organization called the “Gorrini Family.” The new cast members and characters consist of: 

  • • Ken Uo as Hugo
  • • Yuki Ono as Kamil
  • • Minako Kotobuki as Deborah
  • • Yuusuke Kobayashi as Paulo
  • • Michitake Kikuchi as Simon
  • • Masaki Terasoma as Bruno

The main voice cast from the main TV anime series are all reprising their roles for the fourth anime film. 

Tensai Okamura (Darker Than Black, Wolf’s Rain, Blue Exorcist, Kuromukuro) is directing the film, with Kenji Nagasaki (director of the previous movies and TV series’ first three seasons, current chief director of TV series) as animation advisor, Yosuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia series screenwriter, previous movies’ scriptwriter) as scriptwriter, and Yuki Hayashi (returning) as music composer. Bones is the animation production company for the film. 

The previous My Hero Academia films in the franchise include 2018’s Two Heroes, 2019’s Heroes Rising, and 2021’s World Heroes’ Mission.  

The My Hero Academia TV anime series first premiered in 2016 and has been airing its most recent seventh season since May 4, 2024. 

The anime is based on the superhero manga series by Kohei Horikoshi, which was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on July 7, 2014. The manga series has released 40 tankobon volumes as of April 2024, with a 41st volume set for release on August 2, 2024.

VIZ Media releases the manga in English for North America, describing the synopsis as:

Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn’t got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny…
