A new key visual has been unveiled for the upcoming fifth season of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (also known as DanMachi), featuring the core members of the Freya Familia. The fifth season is scheduled to premiere in Japan this coming Fall 2024.
Hideki Tachibana (since Season 2) is directing the fifth season, with Shigeki Kimoto (since Season 1) as character designer, and Hideki Shirane (since Season 1) and light novel creator Fujino Omori (since Season 4) as co-screenwriters. J.C Staff returns as the animation production company.
The main cast for season five includes Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Bell Cranel, Inori Minase as Hestia, and Shizuka Ishigami as Syr Flova, among other cast members who reprised their roles from past seasons.
The anime is based on the light novel series written by Omori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yamada, which was first published by SB Creative’s GA Bunko label on January 15, 2013. Nineteen volumes have been released as of September 2023. The series has also inspired light novel spin-offs, manga, mobile games, and an anime film. One spinoff series, Sword Oratoria, received a 2017 TV anime adaptation.
The first season of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? premiered in 2015, while Season 4 aired from late 2022 to early 2023. The fifth season was announced in November 2023 as one of the light novel series’ 10th anniversary projects. HIDIVE is currently streaming all previous seasons of the series.
Yen Press releases the main light novels and manga adaptation, describing the first volume of the light novel as:
