A new key visual has been revealed for the ongoing second season of The Misfit of Demon King Academy TV anime series, which was released after the broadcast of the anime’s 22nd episode on June 29, 2024.
The visual showcases two versions of protagonist Anos Voldigoad meeting friends and foes from the past.
The 23rd episode will air in Japan on July 3, 2024 due to a broadcast change in the week. The change is a result of several production delays the series has faced. The first cour premiered in January 2023, but had to be rebroadcast in July of that year halfway through the cour. The current second cour of the second season premiered in Japan on April 12, 2024.
Masafumi Tamura (The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in a Different World as an Aristocrat) is directing the anime, with Shin Onuma (Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA Licht Nameless Girl, Deep Insanity: The Lost Child) as chief director, Kazuyuki Yamayoshi (Deep Insanity: The Lost Child) as character designer, Jin Tanaka (Laid-Back Camp Season 2) as series screenwriter, and Keiji Inai (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4) as music composer. SILVER LINK is handling the animation production.
The first season of the anime debuted in 2020 and ran for 13 episodes. Seasons one and two of the anime are streaming on Crunchyroll and Bilibili. Yuichiro Umehara replaced Tatsuhisa Suzuki as main protagonist Anos Voldigord for the current season.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy is based on the light novel series written by Shu and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma. It was first published by Dengeki Bunko on March 10, 2018 and has released 15 volumes as of June 2024, which include several two-parters.
The light novels inspired a 2018 manga adaptation from Square Enix by the late Kayaharuka and an anthology manga from Kadokawa from various artists. The series began as a Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel on April 2, 2017.
J-Novel Club releases The Misfit of Demon King Academy light novel series in English digitally, which describes the synopsis as:
Tired of ceaseless war destroying humans, spirits, and demons alike, the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos Voldigoad, reincarnates to restore peace. Two thousand years have passed…but who could have known that his descendants’ complacency would cause magic to regress so much? After receiving an invitation to the illustrious Demon King Academy, a school tasked with locating the reincarnated founding ancestor, Anos resolves to enroll, only to discover that his magic is off the charts—literally!
