A gameplay-previewing trailer has finally been released for the free-to-play Tribe Nine action RPG, four years after the announcement of the Tribe Nine multimedia project and two years after the broadcast of the TV anime.
Based on the trailer, battles with the player’s three-member party will be flashy third-person encounters with screen-filling visual effects. In contrast, navigating the city of Neo Tokyo will switch players to an isometric perspective, with the characters displayed as chibi sprites.
The Tribe Nine Steam page offers more details. Allies will be able to lure enemies and heal friendlies on their own, and each playable character will feature “unique characteristics,” allowing for “various battle strategies and methods that change based on the combination of your party members.” Players can improve their stats and adjust their equipment as they see fit, with the game’s description saying that players can “even try building a healer as an attacker” and “experiment with creating your own original build.”
Aside from battles and “various other events,” players will also spend time “acquiring items from streets and treasure chests, completing puzzles and other mini-games, and fulfilling requests from the town’s residents.” New
main stories and cities” will be added to the game with future updates.
Details on the game’s micro-transactions were not given, aside from the fact that they exist.
Tribe Nine is currently accepting closed beta applications. Aside from Steam, it will also be available on iOS and Android.
Akatsuki Games is the developer of the action RPG, while TookyoGames is credited with drafting the setting. The Danganronpa series’ Rui Komatsuzaki and Shimadoriru are credited with the character designs. In an older website for the game, Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka has original draft credits.
Steam describes the game as:
TRIBE NINE is an Extreme Action RPG where groups of teens will endure multiple losses and devise strategies to overcome formidable foes. Dive into a crazy adventure with unique characters in a meticulously crafted world with a variety of art styles by the same creators of the ‘Danganronpa’ series.
