The new Detective Conan movie, Detective Conan: Hyaku-man Dollar no Michishirube, was the reigning film at the April 12 to 14 Japan weekend box office.

Hyaku-man Dollar no Michishirube‘s debut weekend saw it drawing 2.274 million moviegoers and an opening gross of 3.352 billion yen (~US$21.7 million). Kogyo Tsushin reports that this is thus far the biggest opening of the year (the well-performing Haikyu!!: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump made 2.23 billion yen at its opening) as well as the strongest opening in the Detective Conan franchise. Last year’s Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine, currently the highest-grossing Detective Conan movie in Japan, opened to 3.146 billion yen.

Haikyu!!: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump was the second best-performing anime film at the weekend chart with a fourth-rank placement. Its overall gross has exceeded 9.5 billion yen (~US$61.55 million), making it the 52nd highest-grossing film in Japan. Some of the anime films it surpassed during its ascent include Hayao Miyazaki‘s The Boy and the Heron (59th) and Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire (56th).

Also on the weekend ranking was Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom at sixth place. The total gross of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny sequel stands at around 4.4 billion yen (~US$28.5 million).
