The anime movie adaptation of Rihito Takarai‘s Ten Count BL manga, which was initially planned for a 2023 release, has had its production cancelled. Production circumstances were cited as the reason.

The Ten Count movie was announced in late 2022 as a co-production between East Fish Studio and SynergySPSou Toyama (Helck Episode 18 and 24 director) was the director and screenwriter, while Tomomi Shimazaki (Mr. Villain’s Day Off, A Couple of Cuckoos sub-character designer) was the character designer.

The anime was first announced in 2019 as a TV series with a 2020 release date. It underwent a reappraisal of its format and received a delay due to “production circumstances.”

The manga started in 2013 and released its sixth and final tankoubon volume in March 2018. It was serialized in Dear+. SuBLime Manga describes the plot as:

Corporate secretary Shirotani suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. One day he meets Kurose, a therapist who offers to take him through a ten-step program to cure him of his compulsion. As the two go through each of the ten steps, Shirotani’s attraction to his counselor grows.

Aside from the ill-fated anime, Ten Count has also inspired two short-lived smartphone games.
