The MF Ghost anime adaptation will continue its tale of racing in 2024 with a recently announced second season. A “super teaser” trailer for the sequel season, originally shown at the end of Season 1, has been released.

The first season of MF Ghost premiered in Japan on October 1 (effectively October 2 at 12 AM JST), with Crunchyroll and Ani-One Asia ULTRA streaming overseas. The show is based on the Kodansha-published manga by Initial D‘s Shuuichi Shigeno and is set in the 2020s of Initial D‘s world, where self-driving cars are common in Japan. The story follows Kanata Rivington, a graduate of a British racing school, who returns to Japan to participate in the popular MFG race and find his father.

The staff for Season 1 includes Tomohito Naka (New Initial D the Movie Legend 3: Dream, New Initial D the Movie Legend 2: Racer) as director, Kenichi Yamashita (Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie?) as series composer, Naoyuki Onda (Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, Inuyashiki) a character designer and chief animation director, and Akio Dobashi (New Initial D the Movie Legend trilogy) as music composer. Felix Film is the animation production company.

Yuuma Uchida voices Kanata Katagiri/Kanata Rivington, while Ayane Sakura voices main heroine Ren Saionji. Other cast members include Daisuke Ono as Shun Aiba, Hiroshi Kamiya as Mikhail Beckenbauer, Daisuke Namikawa as Daigo Oishi, and Junichi Suwabe as Kaito Akaba.

The MF Ghost manga began serialization in Weekly Young Magazine in 2017 and has 18 tankoubon volumes as of October 2023.
