The Oblivion Battery (Boukyaku Battery) anime adaptation has received a teaser trailer, new visual, and April 2024 premiere window. Staff, studio, and additional cast details were also revealed.

Oblivion Battery is the latest anime production with the MAPPA name attached, emphasizing CEO Manabu Otsuka‘s comments to Comic Natalie last month about upping the studio’s (already considerable) output — apparently a shortcut method towards achieving Kyoto Animation and ufotable’s level of quality. Masato Nakazono (Chainsaw Man chief episode director) is directing with Tsuyoshi Iida as assistant director, Michiko Yokote (Tsurune, Call of the Night) as series composer, Hitomi Hasegawa (Dance Dance Danseur) as character designer, and Tomoki Kikuya and Hiroko Yamasaki as music composers.

Some of the other staff members include Junpei Tatenaka (Ace of Diamond) and Masahiro Tokumaru (Hanebado action animator) as action animation directors.

The newly announced cast members include Youhei Azakami as Aoi Todo, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shunpei Chihaya, Yuuki Kaji as Taro Yamada, Yoshitaka Yamaya as Kazuki Tsuchiya, Takeo Ootsuka as Eichiro Kokuto, Mark Ishii as Hironobu Makita, and Kengo Kawanishi as Shuto Kirishima.

Oblivion Battery is based on the high school baseball manga by Eko Mikawa, which began serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in 2018 and has 16 tankoubon volumes as of August 2023. The main characters are Haruka Kiyomine (Toshiki Masuda), a “perfect” pitcher who made a name for himself in middle school, and Kei Kaname (Mamoru Miyano), a formidable player who has regressed to being a novice due to memory loss.
