The character designs, which have been previewed plenty of times, are from Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto, Vampire in the Garden).
The other revealed staff are:
• Kaiju designer: Mahiro Maeda (SSSS.GRIDMAN, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 co-director and concept art director et al.)
• Art director: Shinji Kimura (Children of the Sea, Blood Blockade Battlefront)
• Music composer: Yuta Bandoh (Belle co-composer)
Kaiju No. 8 is set to begin in April 2024. The anime is based on the Shueisha-published manga by Naoya Matsumoto, which started serialization on Shonen Jump+ in 2020 and has 11 tankoubon volumes as of November 2023. VIZ Media describes the manga as:
Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
Production I.G is producing the anime with Studio Khara credited with kaiju supervision (design and artwork). Crunchyroll will stream the show. It will be featured at Jump Festa ‘24‘s JUMP Super Stage RED on December 17 JST.
