Variety reported earlier today that new production company Majestic Limited has closed a deal with Kodansha to produce a feature film adaptation of Boichi’s Origin manga.

Majestic Limited is founded by American film director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars, the New Mutants), executive producer Danny Chan (Barbarian, Freelance), and producer Darius Shahmir (Midnight Special).

The Origin manga series is written and illustrated by Dr. Stone and Sun-Ken Rock creator Boichi. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine from September 5, 2016 until February 9, 2019. A total of 10 tankoubon volumes were released as of June 2019.

The manga was awarded the Grand Prize of the Manga Division at the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival in 2019.

Kodansha USA licensed Origin during Anime NYC 2022 for a Fall 2023 release. It released the series in English on November 21, 2023, describing the synopsis as:

Tokyo, 2048. Japan is now connected to the entire northern hemisphere by the Eurasian Railroad, and all manner of crime and vice pour into the megalopolis at its eastern terminus. Little do the people know that inhuman beings live among us, however—robots with high-level AI, who will kill to survive. Only one “man” can stop them—their prototype: ORIGIN.
