Crunchyroll has revealed its latest categories for the eighth annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards, which is heading back to Tokyo on March 2, 2024. Anime fans around the world will once again have the ability to vote for their favorite shows. 

Full nominees for each category will be revealed on January 17, 2024 and have been selected by a panel of expert 2024 Anime Awards judges, which represent more than 100 global creatives, tastemakers, and influencers. The full list of Anime Awards judges can be found here.

Three new categories have also been added to the 2024 Anime Awards — Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Slice of Life. Besides those three, the full list of categories have been retained from previous award ceremonies and are as follows:

  • • Best Action 
  • • Best Animation
  • • Best Anime Song  
  • • Best Character Design
  • • Best Comedy
  • • Best Continuing Series
  • • Best Director
  • • Best Drama 
  • • Best Ending Sequence
  • • Best Fantasy 
  • • Best Film 
  • • Best Main Character 
  • • Best New Series 
  • • Best Opening Sequence 
  • • Best Original Anime 
  • • Best Romance
  • • Best Score 
  • • Best Supporting Character 
  • • Best Voice Actor Performance — Awarded to voice actors across Arabic, Castilian, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin Spanish languages. 
  • • “Must Protect At All Cost” Character 

The eighth edition of the Anime Awards will take place at the Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa in Tokyo on March 2, 2024, with a live ceremony hosted by voice actress Sally Amaki and entertainer Jon Kabira. The event will be streamed live for global audiences.
