An anime film compilation for Ya Boy Kongming! titled Ya Boy Kongming! Road to Summer Sonia will premiere in Japan on March 1, 2023. The compilation film will recap all 12 episodes of the TV anime series and will feature some new performance scenes.
A 30-second announcement trailer for the compilation film was also released.
The 12-episode Ya Boy Kongming! TV anime adaptation aired from April 5, 2022 to June 21, 2022. It was streamed on HIDIVE and Bilibili outside of Japan. Another 12-episode live-action TV drama adapting the series ran from September 27, 2023 to November 29, 2023.
Osamu Honma (The Aquatope on White Sand episode director) directed the anime series, with Youko Yonaiyama (Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 2 scriptwriter) as series composer, and Kanami Sekiguchi (SHIROBAKO the Movie) as character designer. P.A Works was the animation production company.
Meanwhile, the main voice cast consists of:

- • Kaede Hondo and 96Neko (singing voice) as Eiko Tsukimi
- • Shouya Chiba as KABEtaijin
- • Hibiku Yamamura as Nanami Kuon

The original manga is written by Yuuto Yotsuba and illustrated by Ryou Ogawa. It was first serialized in Kodansha’s Comic Days app and website from December 31, 2019 to November 16, 2021, before moving to Weekly Young Magazine on November 22, 2021. The series is published under the Young Magazine Comics label and has released 15 tankoubon volumes as of October 2023. Kodansha USA is releasing the manga in English.
Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for its HIDIVE streaming service and describes the synopsis as:
Fate and reincarnation deliver brilliant military strategist, Kongming, from warring, ancient China to Japan’s modern party hot spot in Shibuya City, Tokyo. After a lifetime of battles and military skirmishes, Kongming wished with his last breath to be reborn in a world of peace and prosperity. It’s nearly two millennia later and he’s finding his way in a very different world than that of his past life. When he meets Eiko, an amateur musician with big dreams, the unlikely duo strikes up an even unlikelier friendship.
