The upcoming Tonari no Yokai-san anime adaptation has been revealed to have an April 2024 premiere window. A teaser trailer and visual were revealed along with that fact.
Aimi Yamauchi (Ryman’s Clube) is directing the anime at LIDENFILMS with Tomoko Konparu (Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte) as series composer, Jikou Abe (My Senpai is Annoying) as character designer, and Blue Bird’s Nest as music composer. The main cast members include Asaki Yuikawa as Mutsumi Sugimoto/Mu-chan, Ryousuke Higa as Fuchibiyama Jiro, and Yuuki Kaji as Buchio Oishi.
Tonari no Yokai-san is based on the Eastpress-published manga by noho, which takes place in a village where yokai, humans, and gods co-exist. The first tankoubon volume features a long-lived cat, Buchio, who suddenly evolves into a two-tailed Nekomata and begins learning the art of transformation from the Bakegitsune Yuri. The other main characters are the Karasutengu Jiro, a guardian of the mountains, and the young girl Mu-chan.
The manga was originally published on Twitter and is available on Matogrosso. Four tankoubon volumes were released between 2018 to 2022, and the first part of a side story volume was released in August of this year.
