A BONES-produced anime adaptation of The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies (Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai shiteita.) manga has been announced with The Stranger by the Shore‘s Akiyo Oohashi as director. Information about the anime’s premiere date and voice cast were not announced.  

Other key staff members include Yuniko Ayana (BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!) as series composer and scriptwriter, Haruko Iizuka (Horimiya, Josee, the Tiger and the Fish) as character designer, and MAYUKO (Ranking of Kings) as music composer.

A special video, featuring music created by MAYUKO, was also shared along with the announcement. It is available to watch in both Japanese and English.

The anime project was confirmed during Avex Pictures‘ panel at Anime NYC 2023 with BONES president and producer Masahiko Minami in attendance, along with producers Tomokazu Iizumi and Hiroko NishiYuu Serizawa and Himika Akaneya of the idol group i☆Ris were also present during the panel. 

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies was serialized in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker from September 21, 2013 to March 20, 2015 and collected into three tankoubon volumes. The 4-koma manga is the final work of Cocoa Fujiwara (Inu x Boku SS), who passed away in 2015.

The manga follows Mira, the brains behind an evil organization that invades and destroys everything. During the invasion of Earth, a lone magical girl called Byakuya Mimori stands against the organization, and their encounter leads to Mira falling in love with her.
