Crunchyroll announced that it has acquired the North American and select global theatrical rights for the Spy x Family Code: White anime film. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring the film to North American theaters in 2024, which will also be available in both Japanese with English subtitles and dubbed in English.
In addition to the North American rights, Crunchyroll has also acquired the rights for Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and select territories in Europe, including Austria, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, the Nordics, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland.
The first film installment of the popular TV anime series will premiere in Japanese theaters on December 22, 2023. It will feature an original standalone story, with series creator Tatsuya Endou serving as the film’s supervisor.
Takashi Katagiri (Spy x Family Season 1’s co-assistant director) is directing Spy x Family Code: White, with Ichirou Ookouchi (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch of Mercury) as screenwriter and scriptwriter, Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Spy x Family director) as animation supervisor, and Kazuaki Shimada (Spy x Family series) as character designer. CloverWorks and WIT Studio are once again handling the animation production for the film after working on the TV series together.
Other staff members include Kana Ishida (The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc character designer) as sub-character designer, Kyouji Asano (Season 1) as chief animation director, Satomi Sugimoto (Season 1) as art director, Mayumi Kojima (Season 1 background art staff) as art director, Hanami Tanaka (Season 1 second cour co-color designer) as color designer, Akane Fushihara (Season 1) as compositing director, and (K)NoW_NAME (Season 1) as music producer.
Meanwhile, the voice cast includes Takuya Eguchi as Loid Forger, Saori Hayami as Yor Forger, and Atsumi Tanezaki as Anya Forger.
The TV anime series first premiered in April 2022 and ran for two split cours, with a second season airing in October 2023. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime outside of Japan.
The original action-comedy manga series by Endou began serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ on March 25, 2019 and has released 12 tankoubon volumes as of October 2023. A 13th volume is due out on January 4, 2024.
