The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These anime isn’t over yet, as the production of a sequel has just been announced.
Aside from the sequel announcement, it was revealed that Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These — Sakubou, the show’s fourth season, will begin airing in Japan on January 16, 2024 (effectively January 17 at 1:29 AM JST) with a 48-episode length. Sakubou was originally released theatrically in three parts in late 2022.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These is inspired by the Legend of the Galactic Heroes sci-fi novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka, which debuted in 1982 and released its 10th and final volume in 1987. Crunchyroll describes the anime as:
So far, the main staff of Die Neue These includes Shunsuke Tada as director, Yuujirou Moriyama as assistant director, Noboru Takagi as series composer, and Yoko Kikuchi, Kei Tsushima, and Iwao Teraoka as character designers. Production I.G is the animation production company.
Before Die Neue These‘s premiere in 2018, there was a 1988 Legend of the Galactic Heroes anime movie subtitled Waga Yuku wa Hoshi no Taikai, multiple OVA seasons, another anime movie in 1993, and the two-season Legend of the Galactic Heroes Gaiden OVA series.
