Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint has announced that the Chinese animated series A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized will receive a second season.
The first 12-episode season premiered on bilibili on July 30, 2022. Bilibili streamed the series with English subtitles in August 2022, while Crunchyroll licensed the show for release outside of Asia. The Japanese dubbed version of the donghua series premiered on January 6, 2024.

Siwen Liu (Dawang Bu Gaoxing) directed the series, with Wan Zi as character designer and LAN STUDIO as the animation production company.
Meanwhile, the Japanese dub voice cast consists of:

- • Mariko Miyase as Aliante
- • Shuka Saitou as Water Saint
A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years is an adaptation of Kaisei Enomoto‘s original light novel series that was published under the Sneaker Bunko imprint from February 1, 2018 to October 1, 2019. Shugao provided the illustrations for the light novels. A total of three volumes were released. The series began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou from June 2017 to June 2020.

The light novels also inspired a manga adaptation by Kouichi Muro that was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine from January 22, 2018 until November 22, 2019. Five tankoubon volumes were released in total.
Crunchyroll describes the synopsis as:
Desperate to defend her village from the demon king, Reiko offers herself to a 5,000-year-old dragon for his help in exchange, but the flame-breathing beast is vegetarian and a total weakling. Together they embark on a journey to take down the demon king. With her dragon comrade, Reiko claims that she’s his disciple, able to draw from his infinite powers, but is it really from him?
