Natsumi Haruse and Takeo Ootsuka have been announced as the main cast members of the upcoming Medalist anime adaptation. A “pair visual” of their respective characters, the aspiring figure skater Inori Yuitsuka and retired-skater-turned-Inori’s-coach Tsukasa Akeuraji, was released as well.
Medalist is based on the Kodansha-published manga by Tsurumaikada, which began serialization in Monthly Afternoon in 2020 and has eight tankoubon volumes as of May this year. The manga was the winner of the Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho 2022 award in the comics category and the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category.
Kodansha USA describes the plot as:
Tsukasa, whose dreams were crushed. Inori, left to fend for herself. These two share a dream…and their tenacity may be the only thing that sees them through. Their destination? The ice…on the world’s stage!
